Awakening
To be awake is to be alive, present, and immersed in each moment. Awakenings illuminate the path with clarity, reassurance, and, for Beth Anne Booth, the acceptance and recognition of Divine Guidance.
Thus far, Booth’s journey has been shaped by profound awakenings: birth, sobriety, and a lung transplant. Choosing sobriety built a sturdy foundation that continues to bring about self-awareness, spiritual guidance, and communal support. Booth’s lung transplant, made possible through continued recovery, became her third profound awakening. Since her transplant, Booth’s recovery has become even more valuable than before. For all of us, each breath is not guaranteed. The sober breaths that Booth takes are a fragile promise that she will live, and live fully, just for today.
Awakening is a tribute to Booth’s sobriety. Each painting explores themes of surrender, devotion, renewal, and connection. As a whole, they offer a visual meditation on healing, spiritual growth, and the beauty found in transformation. I hope that these works inspire self reflection and a deeper connection within.
Tea with Mara | 31 ¾” w x 50 ½” h | Every day brings a new conversation with the Self. More often than not, that dialogue is laced with self-criticism and judgment, stirring up old feelings of shame and guilt. These are the shadow parts of the self—hidden, painful aspects that rise uninvited to the surface. Sitting with challenging emotions is uncomfortable and hard. The instinct is to ignore them, bury them, and keep moving. But like a pressure cooker, what goes unacknowledged eventually erupts—often causing more harm, most of it internal. Tea with Mara is a visual representation of a Buddhist teaching in which the Buddha— enlightenment, lightness, and divinity—invites Mara, the tempter and embodiment of suffering, to tea. Why would the Buddha welcome an entity so dark? Because true spiritual growth requires that we not reject our suffering, but meet it with presence and compassion. This work explores the intersection of light and shadow, and the quiet beauty that emerges when the two meet. That peaceful space is where the healing begins and awakening occurs. Inner Light | 25 ¼” w x 36 ¼” h | We come into this world as light. Throughout life’s journey, that light can become compromised—dimmed by outside influences, broken systems, and societal pressures. As a result, it may begin to fade, losing its genuine spark. Pain fills the space where light once lived, and unhealthy coping mechanisms can surface. Addiction often plays a central role in attempting to treat that pain, falsely mimicking the qualities of light—confidence, love, safety, and connection. Even in darkness, glimmers of light can still be felt and seen. When nurtured, light grows—becoming more expansive, more radiant. The process of moving through the depths to reclaim courage and strength adds to the light’s value and preciousness. Flow (In Flow) | 24 ¾” w x 35 ¾” h | Being in flow is peace. It’s a feeling of natural goodness—a state we’re meant to experience in this human body. But to recognize flow, we must first know what it feels like to swim upstream—to carry weight, to push against the current, to live out of alignment with who we are. The contrast teaches us. Voice of Soul speaks to the soft, steady whispers that rise from deep within us — the voice of our inner truth. This voice helps shape who we are and who we are becoming. It may not always be the one we follow first, but it is always there, persistent and quietly present. The more we turn inward and listen, the clearer and more powerful that voice becomes. Journeying | 24½” x 25¼” | Sometimes life feels like an endless path — a constant striving to arrive, to feel whole, fulfilled, and purposeful. There’s a deep longing to understand why we’re here. Journeying reflects the ongoing nature of this path, where the true destination is consciousness — the state of being awake and fully present. My Part in It | 24½” x 25¼” | Sobriety continues to teach me more about myself every day. Sometimes, the lessons are difficult—like taking responsibility for actions I’m not proud of. While it’s not easy to admit my wrongdoings and hold myself accountable, these moments deepen my perspective and offer powerful opportunities for spiritual growth. No Filter | 24½” x 25¼” | For most of my life, I “filtered” myself to be accepted. I held back from expressing my true, abundant self. Sobriety has given me the strength and courage to show up as I am. The filter comes down, and I’m finally able to see myself clearly. It’s a journey of self-love, self-compassion, and acceptance. I am the only me—so why hide my gifts and attributes? The more I show up authentically, the deeper my connection becomes with both myself and others. Inwardly Reorganized | SOLD | 24½” x 25¼” | I believe we all enter this world with everything we need. But as soon as we arrive, our “humanness” begins. My own human experience has deeply enriched my soul, while also leading me through moments of darkness and challenge—each one a doorway to growth. The path of addiction dimmed my inner light and distanced me from my higher self. But when I made the decision to get sober, conscious spiritual growth became a priority.
